Medicare Supplement Plans

As we mentioned on the Medicare Basics page, Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) can leave you responsible for out-of-pocket costs that may add up quickly depending on your health and treatment needs. A Medicare Supplement plan, also known as Medigap, is offered by private insurance companies to help cover many of those expenses. These plans can help pay for costs such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance—both when you’re receiving care locally and when traveling out of state. Medicare Supplement coverage can be used with any provider that accepts Medicare, giving you broad flexibility and peace of mind. Keep in mind that Medigap plans do require a monthly premium, but the added protection often outweighs the potential financial risks. In short, if your provider accepts Original Medicare, they’ll likely accept your Medicare Supplement plan as well.
